Kolozsvári Magyar Diákszövetség (KMDSZ)

The Hungarian Student Union of Kolozsvár (KMDSZ) is the representative and cultural organization of the Hungarian students who are pursuing their academic studies in Kolozsvár’s higher education institutions. The organization was founded in 1990 as being one of the first non-profit and apolitical organizations who took the opprotunities offered by the regime change and at present it plays an essential role in the life of the Hungarian community of Kolozsvár. Our organization is affiliated to several national and international youth organizations. We have a very fruitfull collaboration with student organizations in Hungary (called HÖK - Hallgatói Önkormányzat), and we are a member of the Országos Magyar Diákszövetség (http://omdsz.ro/hu/index.php), an organization uniting the hungarian student organizations from every county in Romania. The organization has 17 working groups, working in several fields that make up the local universities curricullum. In the past years we have also granted bigger attention to our youth career management group (KMDSZ e-Karrier), and our social issues group (Gyeri Klub), helping students from poor or brokent families. The organization has two permanent projects offering vital services for youth in Cluj. These are the KMDSZ Sport Office and KMDSZ Career Management Office. The KMDSZ Sport Office offers sporting possibilities in 24 different sports, startig from football (where for the last 17 years we've organized the local students cup, the Visszhang Kupa) and continuing with handball, tenis, beach volley, cycling and even ski. The KMDSZ Career Management Office organizes job trainings, job fairs, offers internship possibilities, volunteering and services such as career counseling and personal development plans. Also our annual Hungarian Students Festival involves 1800 registered participants, with the total number of students involved in the project exceeding 3500 youth. KMDSZ has been the co-organizer of the Hungarian Cultural Festival os Cluj ever since it's first edition. The promotes the hungarian culture on a national level and draws up to 100.000 participants annualy. Our Youth Information Center is open all year round with an 8 our daily program. The center manages every administrative problem a student faces at University, from students dorms, to internships, exchange programs, formal trainings, etc.
