The Arturo Toscanini Comprehensive Institute of Aprilia is made up of three school that bring together the pre- school, the primary school and the lower secondary school, located in the Toscanini district of the city of Aprilia. Aprilia is an Italian municipality in Lazio with over 70,000 inhabitants of the province of Latina, part of the metropolitan area of Rome.
The school has always pursued the objective of educating, training its students and creating a collaborative and highly inclusive learning environment, trying to give adequate answers to the different needs, didactic and educational, of each individual, guaranteeing equal opportunities for all.
The school population is heterogeneous, the pupils come from a varied social - economic - cultural context, the result of internal and foreign migratory flows in the area and, unfortunately, after the pandemic, families in economic difficulty have increased, and consequently, increases school dropout.
For our Institute, inclusion is the first necessity that prompted us to activate all internal resources and to request the participation and collaboration of the Municipality and no-profit organizations, to offer all students the best opportunities to growth and development of individual and group potential.
Over the years, the Institute Toscanini has enriched the training offer with projects aimed at recovering and strengthening knowledge, skills and competences; has paid attention to the literacy of foreign students, disadvantaged and with school debts, with relationship and behavioral difficulties. The aims of the school have been defined starting from the person who learns, with the originality of his individual path and the opportunities offered by the network of relationships that link him to the family and to local institutions and no profit organization.
The Institute is currently carrying out two projects which, in an innovative way, deal with inclusion, respect for others alongside the theme of legality and environmental sustainability; a problem, unfortunately, current in the context of Aprilia, where there are episodes of environmental degradation, poor management of resources and "non-compliance" with legislation and where, on a national level, there is a lack of key methods and texts which clearly illustrate to young people 6 and 14 years the concept of legality and environmental sustainability. The first is MUSICHE DAL MONDO, uno sguardo condiviso per crescere insieme, a twinning with another school in Abruzzo to create music, environment, multiculturalism and civic participation workshops; the second is an orientation project in collaboration with the Michelangelo Buonarroti Art School which involves the creation of manga that tell and at the same time address current issues such as bullying, environmental sustainability and responsible use of water.
The project aims at a comparison between new methods and technologies for the post pandemic school education system to counter learning obstacles.
