Ida-Virumaa Kutsehariduskeskus (Ida-Virumaa Vocational Education Centre)

Ida-Virumaa Vocational education centre is an educational institution with 60 years of experience and continuous development focusing on the requirements of the north-east Estonian labour market. The school has over the years traditionally specialised in technical and services courses. The school has 1250 students who can study 32 different specialties, the number of teaching staff is 90. Studies proceed in the Estonian and Russian languages.

Ida-Virumaa Vocational Education Centre provides vocational education on the basis of basic and secondary school. The training is carried out at five departments:

1. Construction and mechanics department (Constructor, building carpenter, construction finishing, welder, metalworker, car technician, joiner, finishing work in construction, builder)

2. Technology department (Mining worker, operator of technological processes, industrial technology, electrician, operator of chemical protsesses, automation, laboratory assistant)

3. Service department (Baker, pastry-cook, cook, bartender, waiter, hotel service operation)
4. Economics department (Salesclerk, sewer of light clothing, freight forwarder, warehouse keeper, business administration, hotel service operations, accounting, hairdresser)
5. IT department (Data processing, computer service in trade)
In-service training and retraining of adults proceeds from the principle of life-long learning and it has envolved into cooperation with enterprises of the region which are an important factor in the region’s development. Everybody who wishes to acquire additional specialty, improve one’s knowledge or acquire new skill are welcome in Ida-Virumaa Vocational Education Center. In in-service training we offer clients short courses and programs consisting of different modules which prepare for successful work as a specialist. Studies are held during daytime and in the evening.

The aims of cooperation with international partners are: exchange of teachers, leading specialists and students, exchange of students for having practice at schools or enterprises, exchange of teachers for getting work experience and exchange of teachers for appointed period, cooperation in international projects offered by both parties. Teachers and students participate in different projects of Leonardo da Vinci, Nordplus, Youth of Europe and other programes.

Ida-Virumaa Vocational Education Centre is certified by ISO EN 9001:2008 since 2007.
