GYIÖT is a Hungarian non-governmental organization and it is the predecessor in the title of the Federation of Children’s and Youth Municipal Council which was established in 1996 with the aim of organizing and supporting the local initiatives of children’s and youth councils across Hungary. The reformulation of the organization has been initiated to meet the needs of the youth work profession. Currently, GYIÖT is one of the Hungarian leading organizations in developing youth work and enhancing the professionalization of youth work.
GYIÖT’s main focus areas of work are the following:
- Promoting youth participation at a local level
- Enhancing the visibility and recognition of youth work
- Developing and strengthening the professionalization of youth work in Hungary.
GYIÖT is an active applicant organization in the Erasmus+ program and holds an Erasmus+ Accreditation in the field of youth, as well as received an Award for the best youth participation project in 2019 by the Hungarian NA.
Our main activities are concentrated around youth and community development projects, developing educational materials and tools to promote youth participation and youth work as well as managing different communication campaigns with different scopes and targets to enhance visibility and recognition. Our main event is a biannually organized national conference, with over 200 participants that brings together the community of practice in the youth work field as well as offers an NGO and Tool Fair where the latest developments in Hungarian youth work practice are exhibited.
We offer consultancy and educational activities to youth workers, youth organizations, and especially for local municipalities. In our daily practice therefore we are working closely with the youth work sector, but less directly with young people.
