GOVERNMENT TEACHERS UNION OF MAURITIUS

we have a ONE MAN ONE VOTE SYSTEM and election is held every 2 years.we have a council of 15 members and 2 coopted members.Yearly we have one or 2 delegates assembly.we have a youth wing and a women's wing.Also an association for retired members.We have our own building in QUATRES BORNES a town in the central part of the island ,where all our general assemblies,forums,etc are held.We help a lot of workers organisation by putting our building at their disposal for their AGM's etc.You must know that the first settlers of the island were the DUTCH and they gave it the name of MAURITIUS in honour of former prince ' MAURICE VAN NASSAU" .GTU helped much in giving a helping hand in the setting up of the FRIENDRIX HENDRIX DUTCH MUSEUM at VIEUX GRANDPORT,in the south of the island.At that time mauritius was know as the ISLAND OF THE DODO,but unfortunately it is an extinct bird today.
