Forum 43 Kenya

Forum 43 Kenya is a Kenyan Human rights and Advocacy organization founded in 2015. Its mission to facilitate structured engagement among human rights actors and to implement projects that address human rights violations in marginalized areas.

Forum 43 anchors its foundation on Article 43 of the Constitution of Kenya which hopes to address Kenya’s inequality gaps with primary focus on social, economic and cultural rights of the marginalized. It emphasizes the fundamental rights of the citizens particularly those in marginalized sectors and communities – including those living in rural, semi-urban and informal settlements.

Our Theory of Change.

We believe that meaningful empowerment of marginalized people can happen when the marginalized people themselves are involved in conversations and activities for the promotion of social and economic rights at the local level. We believe in enlightening the forgotten populations on their basic rights and partnering with them to build bridges for advocacy and empowerment. We use innovative approaches to map out their need; we also combine research and advocacy in our methodology of intervention to build great lessons for the future.

Approach and Target group.

We employ a rights-based approach in our strategy - emphasizing on the securing and protection of basic rights of the marginalized as entrenched in the Kenyan constitution. This way, we seek the empowerment of both duty-bearers and rights-holders in the communities.

Our key target groups include:

1. Women and young girls. (Out of school)
2. Child-led families and domestic workers
3. Street families and the homeless
4. People living in slums and Informal settlements.
5. Sexual minorities and SGBV survivors.

Our Objectives include:

1. To carry out socio-economic research and needs mapping in target communities in order to develop a database of information useful for designing successful interventions and projects.
2. To conduct Rights trainings and capacity building activities to the target groups using the Human Rights based approach (HRBA).
3. To engage in partnerships with other organizations and pool resources for project implementation.
4. To undertake advocacy and lobbying for necessary legislation at the local (County) level aimed at improving the condition of marginalized and oppressed workers.
5. To promote the creation of a national network of Human rights actors.
