Fatma-Nuri Erkan Science and Art Center is a support education center which provides education to students who are gifted in art or music, or intellectually gifted. Gifted and talented students receive education with respect to their talents in this center in addition to their school hours.
Our center aims to encourage and develop the talent and creativity of gifted and talented students along with their social and emotional development by diagnosing them in early ages.
The center started its training activities in 2011 and new students are accepted every year according to their diagnosis results. Currently, we provide support education to 158 students with 24 teachers, of one is principal, and two are assistant principals.
The students are selected through a gradual process. First, teachers nominate the students, who they think are highly talented, to attend the process. Then, these students are taken into test for screening, and according to their scores, they are ranked. Those students whose scores are above the country average gain a right to attend the individual assessment. In the last step, the students who are diagnosed with high ability after the expert assessment can enroll in the center.
The center has a 4-story detached building with 3600 m2 indoor area and looks aesthetically nice with wooden patterns. In the center, there are 18 classrooms some of which are used as artist’s studios. The classrooms are provided with the required equipment with regard to the relevant course. In addition to that, all classrooms have smart-boards, high-speed internet access and network setup. There is also wireless connection within the building. To mention the training technologies, 3D printer, 3D pen, professional telescope, graphic tablets and planetarium tent are available in the center and are integrated into the highly able students’ support education.
