ENGIM is a non-profit organization operating in Italy since 1977. In 2000 it was recognized as a NGO by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, due to its extensive efforts on short and medium-term programmes in developing countries for:
-the selection, training and employment of volunteers in civil service;
-the implementation of training activities in developing countries;
- the organization of informative and educational activities on development issues.
ENGIM currently operates in 16 foreign countries (Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Lebanon, Mali, Ghana, India, Albania, Kenya, Bolivia, Nigeria) implementing projects and programmes aimed primarily at children and youngsters living in vulnerable conditions. Its activities are focused on vocational trainings, non-formal education, food assistance programs and social services.
In Italy, ENGIM mainly operates in the field of vocational training and professional orientation for young people in 6 different regions.
Besides the development cooperation projects, ENGIM also carries out international projects concerning:
- child sponsorship programmes: it approximately helps 2,000 children in Africa, Latin America, Asia and Eastern Europe. All the collected funds are used to support the children attendance to schools, day care or training centres;
- training and sensitization: through the promotion of educational initiatives, the ENGIM goal is to raise awareness and knowledge among young people, in order to understand the problems and the interdependence of developing countries;
- Fair Trade promotion: in 2002 ENGIM opened its first fair trade shop in Rome, that has also become a meeting point for young people ,where it’s possible to discuss about social and economic issues.
Exchange for Youth workers and youngsters: respect the environment, reuse in a creative way and enjoy the nature!
Training course and youth exchange to foster dialogue through theatrical expressions between humans: disability as a tool for new ways of communication.
