Engelleri Aşma Grubu

"Engelleri Aşma Grubu" consists of people who came together during the “Dreams Without Barriers Painting Festival” event held at Eskişehir Osmangazi University in order to raise awareness for the disabled and carried out various projects on the same subject. While there are many different definitions of disability today, our focus is to draw attention to the general problems experienced by people with disabilities (facilitating their social acceptance, prevention of disability abuse) as well as the barriers created by people without disabilities. In other words, one of the primary goals of our group is to break down the barriers created by society and to enable people with disabilities to take part more comfortably in the social environment. Our other aims are to create the necessary awareness for the correct evaluation of the aforementioned issues on the society; To contribute to better adoption by our peers and our society. Our goal is to exchange ideas on what kind of duties we will undertake in society regarding the disabled and how we can increase this awareness on a social basis, and to organize events that attract attention with different methods. At the same time, in addition to ensuring the social acceptance of disabled individuals, it is also to create an environment for the individuals around them to realize the roles that facilitate the lives of these individuals. One of the important factors in our group's active role in disability is that it consists of 22 students from departments with different dynamics such as Psychological Counseling and Guidance, Special Education, International Relations, History, as well as members carrying out volunteer activities. While some of our members have experience in our common point about the disabled and in organizing and managing projects, some of them are people who work in artistic activities such as music, dance, and painting. With the support of our guidance teachers and advisors, who contributed to the establishment of our group, we participate in various seminars, interviews, volunteer activities, and film screenings in Eskişehir in line with our aim. For example, we help our friends in line with our vision by holding our group meetings at the Gökkuşağı Cafe (a place where people with Down Syndrome work).
