The Educational Initiative Ferhat Unvar was founded on November 14, 2020, by Serpil Temiz Unvar to honor her son, Ferhat Unvar, a victim of the racist attack in Hanau, Germany. The initiative serves as a platform for children, youth, young adults, and their families who experience racism and discrimination in their daily lives or at school. It is a space for reflection, solidarity, and empowerment.
The initiative actively combats everyday and institutional racism through educational workshops, community engagement, and public awareness campaigns. Our workshops focus on anti-discrimination, civil courage, and the societal impact of racist violence, such as the Hanau attack. By fostering dialogue and critical thinking, we empower participants to recognize and address discrimination while promoting a culture of inclusion and justice.
We are supported by a committed team of young people, educators, community leaders, and Ferhat’s friends and family. Together, we strive to build a society rooted in equity, respect, and peaceful coexistence across diverse cultures, religions, and nationalities.
