Eko-Renesans Social Union was established by Academy of National Sciences of Azerbaijan, Ganja Regional Scientific Center, scientists and intellectual men of the city. The founders of this organization carry out to solve the global and local ecological problems influenced on people’s health in the region and to inform and enlighten the people and involve themselves to this process. The solution of ecological problems depends on the development and enlightenment of civil society. The main purpose of the organization is development of the civil society and to solve the ecological problems.
First, the organization has prepared the Local Action Plan of Protection of the Environment with finance support of Caucasian Ecological Center. The action plan was prepared together with “interested parties” committee of all levels of the community during 2 years. Governmental bodies of the city, municipalities, science and education institutions, business sectors and related organizations were represented in this committee. After preparation of the action plan, it was presented in the final conference to the Board of Ganja. State and city governmental bodies have already solved the ecological problems according to the action plan. For example, building of the riverbed of Ganja river and renovation of the banks.
During the monitoring of BTC oil pipeline, the members of the organization carried out the survey in 18 communities of six districts along the pipeline, researched the results and presented them to the group. Ganja office of Civil Control Network was established in this basis of the organization and within the network, community and monitoring group were established in Chobanabdalli village of Samukh district. The group members determined the ecological problems in the pipeline passage and out of the pipeline and prepared the recommendations to solve these problems. The activities were planned to continue within the network in Gadabey, Dashkesan and Goy-Gol. The organization work closely with local Excoms, Municipalities and other related bodies and established business-like relations with them during the project implementations.
The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Republic and related instances was appealed to stop mass slaughter of the forest with 1300 signatures of the people in administrative territories of Ganja and Goy-Gol (Khanlar). We can consider this appeal, which obtained the concrete results and carrying out of the concrete activities according to the solution of prioritizing the main problems within the survey conducted in Ganja, Samukh and Goy-Gol to determine the conditions in accordance with public utilities as the activities of the organization. Organizing the activities according to the solutions of the domestic waste, gas, water and lift in Ganja, mobilizing of the community members according to supplying Chobanabdalli village of Samukh district with gas and find solutions of the problems, AZERIGAS was appealed to supply New Gizilja village of Goygol (Khanlar) district with gas and 130 persons were mobilized in accordance with the formal appeal, and all of these activities are successful steps of the organization. The members of the organization participated in different conferences conducted by governmental organizations and NGOs.
At the same time, the chairman and the members of the organization are international and regional experts on different problems. For example, the chairman of the organization I.Abbasov is an expert of the Local Action Plan of Protection of the Environment and water problems. The organization is a member of some international and local coalitions and networks. Europe Eko-Forum, Civil Control Network and control of European Economic Community’s activity forum are the networks mentioned above.
