Domi 1st of February 2022 – In the Name of Alkis is a non-profit, civil-society organisation founded in Thessaloniki in February 2022. It was created in response to the tragic murder of 19-year-old student Alkis Kampanos, who lost his life simply because of the team he supported. This act of senseless violence shocked Greek society and highlighted the urgent need to address toxic fan culture, intolerance, and youth vulnerability to group pressure, stereotypes, and aggressive behaviours.
From its inception, the organisation has been rooted in volunteerism, solidarity, and civic responsibility. It now counts more than 500 active members from across Greece and abroad, bringing together people of all ages who believe in the power of sports, education, and culture as vehicles for positive social change.
Domi 1st of February 2022 – In the Name of Alkis does not only aim to preserve the memory of Alkis but also to transform grief into action, and tragedy into hope. By mobilising young people, schools, sports academies, and local communities, it seeks to promote a culture of empathy, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence. These principles are fully aligned with the values of the European Union and the Erasmus+ programme, which emphasises youth empowerment, inclusion, and the fight against discrimination.
The main reasons that led to the establishment of the organisation are to develop actions in order to: 1. Ensure that Alkis Kampanos is never forgotten:
The organisation aims to preserve the memory of Alkis not only as a tribute to his life but also as a catalyst for social reflection and change. By commemorating his story, we inspire individuals, especially young people, to stand against violence, intolerance, and discrimination in their communities. Memorialising Alkis is a tool for teaching empathy, moral responsibility, and civic courage.
2. Change fan culture and social behaviour through public awareness: Domi seeks to transform fan culture by addressing the root causes of aggression, rivalry, and prejudice in sports communities. Through campaigns, events, and educational programs, we plant seeds of empathy, dialogue, and coexistence, symbolically represented as the “coexistence of colours” in sports. This approach extends beyond football fandom to broader social interactions, promoting respect for diversity, intercultural understanding, and peaceful conflict resolution.
3. Foster youth engagement and empowerment: By actively involving young people in projects, workshops, and community actions, the organisation encourages the development of leadership skills, critical thinking, and active citizenship. Participants learn to advocate for social inclusion, challenge stereotypes, and contribute positively to society, aligning with the core Erasmus+ values of youth empowerment and European solidarity.
4. Promote education and social inclusion: Through educational initiatives tailored for schools, sports academies and clubs, and youth organisations, Domi aims to integrate principles of empathy, teamwork, and non-violence into learning environments. These programmes support the personal growth of participants while fostering inclusive communities that value diversity and collaboration.
5. Strengthen community and European collaboration: Domi collaborates with local authorities, educational bodies, sports federations, and European networks to share good practices, exchange knowledge, and implement inclusive projects. By connecting local initiatives to European objectives, we promote a unified approach to combating social exclusion, intolerance, and violence across borders.
6. Build a culture of long-term impact and sustainability: Every action is designed not only to create immediate awareness but also to leave a lasting imprint on society, inspiring future generations to uphold values of solidarity, non-violence, and active civic engagement.
