Il Nodo is established by 7 social cooperatives active in the province of Catania in 2000, to respond to a shared need to operate "on a network" in addressing the issues and problems of social entrepreneurship in the region. Il Nodo provides social welfare services to the individuals in the Catania area, with a view to care, support and empowerment of people in difficulty. Its target audience are Italian minors and young people, unaccompanied foreign minors, migrant adults seeking asylum, individuals and families with social problems, disabled individuals, elderly individuals.
Main activities and services provided by Consorzio Il Nodo are;
-Housing community for minors, both for Italian and foreigner
-Management of first and second reception centres for immigrants
-Work placement activities for disadvantaged individuals
-Youth Aggregation Centres
-Territorial Animation Services
-Home and Community Education Services
-Home Care Services
-Multifunctional Assistance - Welfare Help Desk
Numerous projects and interventions are carried out with young individuals who are socio-economically disadvantaged through collaboration with local educational institutions. Main objectives of these interventions are to promote active and responsible citizenship, education in the culture of legality, prevention of the use of narcotic substances and critical use of the web. Among the other activities covered, we highlight the development of active youth policies and the care of the job placement of disadvantaged people, through the activation of highly personalized and user-centred accompaniment and tutoring practices.
For 23 years Il Nodo has been dealing with the reception of migrant adults, youth and minors through an "integrated" reception system. Currently 562 migrants and asylum seekers especially coming from African countries are being hosted in its structures, who are minors without adult accompany, young adults, adults, and families to provide direct lively hood services, as well as activities for the purpose of empowerment and integration.
Since 2020, Il Nodo has been hosting ESC volunteers from Spain, France, Macedonia, Belgium and other countries, to involve international volunteers’ perspectives in the reception centres.
