"Common Sense" Youth Organization

“Common Sense” youth organization is the most active organization in Sumgait. It was established in 2006. Since its establishment, we have been implementing the following activities:

Debate program among both students and schoolchildren of our city, Sumgait. In relation with this, we are cooperating with the “Debate in Civil Society” Public Union, establisher of formal Debate in Azerbaijan and a member of IDEA.

What are the activities and experience of your organisation in the area relevant for this project? What are the skills and/or expertise of key person involved in this project?

“I’m Human” Movie Festival on Peace and Human Rights, in cooperation with the organization “Integration of Azerbaijani Youth to Europe”. During the Film Festival, the movies based on HR were presented and after each movie there were held the discussions on the topic shown in the movie.
“Stop the Chain of AIDS”- grant project, in frame of which there was the small video competition on AIDS’ stereotypes in our society and people’s reactions to the ones having AIDS syndrome, and also the educational sessions were conducted for the local youth on AIDS.
“Environmental Protection and the role of the young people in it”, grant project, in frame of which there was held the Debate tournament on Karl Popper format among the schoolchildren of 6 schools in Sumgait.
“Active Citizens School”, grant project, in frame of which the trainings on different topics, such as – Active Citizenship, First Aid, Oratory, Leadership etc., were conducted to the local youth selected for the school via interviews and applications, June – August, 2010
“Mobile Volunteering School”, grant project, organized in frame of British Council’s ”Active Citizens” program aiming at promoting the volunteering among the schoolchildren by conducting the sessions in different schools of Sumgait by the students selected for the project, April – May 2011
“EcoCamp”, ecological camp organized with the financial support of the National Youth Fund, aiming at raising awareness on ecological issues in Azerbaijan, and getting to know the European experiences in the issues as well as the sessions on advocacy and project-management on the topic by getting together 15 young people of Sumgait city, September, 2012
Partnerships within “Youth in Action” project with different organizations from Russia, Romania, Georgia and provision the participation of our members and volunteers in these projects.
Also we have EVS accreditation from SALTO EECA.
