The Club UNESCO "Re Italo" was founded in Reggio (southern Italy) in 1983, officially recognized in 1985 as a member of the Italian Federation of UNESCO Clubs and Centres (FICLU), in association with Worldwide Federation UNESCO Clubs; it is a ONLUS (NGO).
General activities of the Club:
Peace promotion; environmental safeguarding; preservation of citizens' rights; development of foreign cultural groups existent in the cities in which we operate; improvement of artistic and cultural activities in general, and naturalistic heritage of local territories.
Public conferences and demonstrations; involvement of foreigners living in our geographical context; involvement of artists; school teaching; University seminaries; participation in international meetings, such as 'Youth for Europe', 'Youth in Action', 'Grundtvig' or other projects, in various countries (Malta, Turkey, Israel and Palestine, Korea, Sweden, France, Spain, Germany, Norway, Lithuania, Estonia).
Voluntary members of all ages (youth section and adult section) and presence of members from different foreign countries (European and non).
Association member of Peace Praesidium of Reggio (active between 2000-2008). Cooperation with several Italian and European UNESCO Clubs.
The Club operates in the region of Calabria, which is considered by the EU to be a disadvantaged area, where there are also many foreign workers. The Club acts as a link between local citizens and the different foreign communities resident in the area who, thanks to the Club, have acquired more "standing", locally.
