City of Helsinki Youth Department, Viikki Youth center

Viikki Youth center is one of the Youth centers of the City of Helsinki Youth Department (www.nuoriso.hel.fi) Our activities are based on the overall missions of the City of Helsinki Youth Department which are to support young people’s life choices and their sense of responsibility as well as promoting young people’s active participation. We provide activities to young people between 9 -17 years old. These activities are open house activities, camps, after school activities, different group activities etc.

Our group is called Viikki’s KV-group (KV as in international youth exchange –group). In our group we have 9 youngsters age 14 -17. and 2 groupleaders. All of our group members are girls. We are highly motivated to carry out the exchange project.

Through this exchange project we want to raise awareness of different social and cultural realities and support the young people’s personal and social development. The project also aims to build young people’s competences on tolerance, to respect each other as we are. Inclusive growth plays a role in our project. Marginalisation is an issue among young people. We want to engourage young people to be proud of who they are, support them to build their identity and to find their own path.
