Çekmeköy Doga Primary School is located in the Asian side of Istanbul in Turkey, in addition to secondary school students, it has 429 students from first to fourth grade and 500 students from high school. The majority of the students are of Turkish Origin and some come from different ethnic backgrounds. It is considered a multi-lingual school which teaches English and German. Çekmeköy Doga School has transformed this beautiful environment of education blended in with nature. The school places emphasis on teaching based on nature therefore it offers its students an opportunity to discover and develop their abilities in a natural atmosphere. Çekmeköy Doga School provides ecological-agricultural grounds, where children can grow their own vegetables and fruits in a variety of botanical and zoological gardens. The aim of Doga Schools is to provide an individual development for pupils in a way that is multi-directional, participative, creative and sensitive. The teaching staff and the management of the institution are actively engaged in development and implementation of innovative teaching concept that links with the nature and ecological awareness (Natural Learning Concept) and put a lot of efforts for intensive development of the key competences of the learners through extracurricular activities and initiatives implemented within the general curriculum. It also raises learners’ awareness on ecological and sustainable development issues. For Doga Schools’ policy European Projects are of vital importance as they believe that projects are instrumental for shaping the next generation of learners coherent with the needs of the new era; communicative, sensible and responsible. Doga schools have huge capacity to disseminate and to implement educational initiatives with their students, staffs and branching institutions in national and international context via implementation schools, web sites, Doga TV, magazines and national and international conferences.
