Bugaci Futóhomok Ifjúsági Egyesület

Bugaci “Futóhomok” Ifjúsági Egyesület is a cultural organisation, dealing with youth by organising free time activity for and by the youth of the youngsters and for the village. The organisation was fund in 1998 by the youth of the village. By passing time, it has been passed twice for the youth, the next generations.
Our activity means organising seasonal festivals for the village like harvest festival, other folk festivals. Furthermore, our organisation keeps going the folklore traditions like Easter festival, St. Michael day, also running an amateur theatre with four performances. Our amateur theatre gets invitations from different towns to make performance on them cultural festivals.
Our organisation also takes part in archaeological excavation at a ruined monastery of the village, from the 11th century. It means we host volunteers from universities, mostly archaeologist to work on the excavation from May to October every year. The monastery excavation is under developing it will take a long time until reaching the form we want to. Actually it could have been one of the biggest monastery of the Hungarian Empire in the middle age.
Our village is surrounded by the biggest national park of Hungary (Kiskunsági National Park) where the organisation organises traditional and cultural festivals including horse riding and touring in the national park, etc. Our organisation keeps in touch with the organisations as Kiskunsági Natural Park, associations of the hunters, etc.
Free time activities: bicycle tour for children and youth, education about how to use the bicycle as a tool in traffic.
There is a regular training for youth and children from the age of 5 years in the field of playing chess. Chess education is successful in our village. We are proud of two European and one national champions of the village whom grown up in our village (Varga Klára, Juhász Barbara), and achieved this success by taking part in our trainings. We have the sufficient tools for running this training for big groups and we also organising open tournaments annually commemorating the most successful trainer of the village, Juhász Károly. Successes in chess are the heritage of Juhász and we want to keep success going in our village.
Our organisation works together with other association of the village in the fields as sport (Local Sport Association, Association for family support, Association folk dance and music).
Our association is one participant of running the Cultural House of the village to get people interested in coming to free programs and group activities for creating a cohesive society.


Bugac is a village in the middle of the Big Field, Hungary, 3,200 inhabitants. Our village is mainly has an agricultural economy which is actually keeping the traditional way of horticulture. Furthermore, the tourism is important in the life of the village because of the Kiskunsági Nature Park, which is visited by about 20,000 people every year. The most important sport are the horse sports in the village. There are world champions deriving from the village in carriage driving as Imre Abonyi, Juhász László, László Kecskeméti. In this way the horse and carriage driving is take an important place in the life of people who lives here in our village. Furthermore, natural land field and Natural Park is also important elements in the life of the village, because of it, the natural environment is preferred among tourists. We also have a big gym, where we organise football tournaments, and we also have a football team playing in the championship. We also have trainings where we welcome the participants. Any volunteer welcomed in the team during his exchange period. Our inhabitants are truly open minded and welcome new people in the village. Because of it is a small town, we have that easy task to introduce the incoming people to the village and get them friends.
For free time activity, hosted volunteers can visit the biggest cities of Hungary such as Budapest, Szeged and Kecskemét. Volunteers also can ride horse, bicycle, hiking, play football, do yoga, chess in groups with the people of the village. There are restaurant, pubs in the village and music clubs in Kiskunfélegyháza which is preferred among the people of the village during weekends. There are spas in Kiskunfélegyháza, Kecskemét and Kiskunmajsa. For open water activities, there is a wakeboard possibility in Kecskemét and theatres, cinemas, as well. So there are a lot of methods to spend time and having fun.
