Bow is a thriving, inclusive secondary school in the borough of Tower Hamlets in London, UK. The school has transformed from an under-performing, poorly Ofsted rated, boys-only school into a dynamic, co-educational centre of excellence, providing students a rich and broad education to prepare them for the rigours of the 21st century. The school comprises of 1031 students aged 11-18, and 168 contracted staff. We provide students with a broad and exciting curriculum, including English, Maths, science, IT, humanities, social sciences, French, Spanish, Drama, sports and Business studies. The school is a diverse and multicultural community. We have staff and students from 35 countries. Many of our students come from disadvantaged backgrounds. 61% are in receipt of the pupil premium and come from low income families. Many of our sixth form students will be the first generation of their families to attend university. Many of our students are first or second generation migrants, and our school has a special unit to help the educational needs of students where English is not their first language. We are interested in undertaking this project because it is well suited to the core values of our school. At Bow School we embrace diversity and inclusivity, and value democracy, community and mutual respect. We support our students to aim high no matter their background, and gain key skills to equip them for after they leave school. Bow School is located in the borough of Tower Hamlets which has the fourth biggest Asian population in London, and is an emblem for the UK’s growing diversity and multiculturalism. Undertaking this project will allow us to learn more about our local community and communities across Europe, whilst also bringing together the school community.
The primary contact for Bow School for Erasmus projects is Ife Akinroyeje, who is the Sixth Form Support Coordinator.
