Beyond status initiative

Beyond Status Initiative (BSI) is a registered, youth-led Community-Based Organization (CBO) based in Likoni, Mombasa County, Kenya. Founded in December 2025 by Mwanaidi Chamosi, a young woman living with HIV who experienced stigma firsthand, BSI is dedicated to eradicating HIV stigma and empowering young people to live with dignity, confidence, and purpose.

Our name reflects our mission: we help young people move BEYOND the labels society puts on them — HIV positive, rape survivor, mentally ill, "damaged goods" — and help them see that they are more than any single status.

What We Do:

BSI delivers structured, peer-led mentorship programs in schools and community spaces. Our 7-week curriculum covers:

HIV awareness and stigma reduction (U=U, testing, adherence)

Mental health first aid and resilience building

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness, including support for male survivors

Consent, boundaries, and healthy relationships

Life skills, leadership, and decision-making

Financial literacy and entrepreneurship

Environmental awareness and community action

20 trained peer mentors

7 partner schools in Likoni Sub-County

200+ youth reached annually

24 mentorship sessions per year

Dignity Support Initiative providing sanitary pads to 200+ girls annually

Our Safeguarding Commitment:

All BSI facilitators sign a Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Agreement, complete safeguarding training, and follow a strict two-adult rule (no one-on-one closed-door meetings).
