Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Struggling Against Addiction Club (later known as AYBU BAM) is an independent student association founded by students of Yıldırım Beyazıt University Psychology department, one of the favorite universities of Turkey. This community is based on the principles of apolitical, independence and respect for differences. It was established to conduct field studies, prevention programs, intervention programs, academic and social studies on various addictions that are increasing rapidly today. Its task is to carry out integration studies for groups that are disadvantaged in the society and more likely to meet with addictions; to contribute to the social and psychological well-being of these groups.
In this framework, AYBU BAM was established in May 2018 and started its activities. To provide social benefit and impact, training activities have been started with the thought that individuals who will provide this must have certain skills and competencies. These activities are founded on the observance of volunteerism and social benefit and include volunteering and civil society workshops, process-oriented thinking - performing project-based action, problem identification and solution construction workshops, empathy studies (role playing, take one step forward), etc. AYBU BAM also aims to bring together academicians, students or individuals who are experts in their fields with club members through activities called 'experience transfer', to be able to look at them from different perspectives and to benefit from experiences. Another activity, called 'free presentation', involves the volunteers of the club members to make presentations on any topic that they have determined and prepared in advance. With this activity, it is aimed to support individuals to speak in front of the public and to enable them to express themselves comfortably. Shortly after its establishment, it started to work on writing an Erasmus+ project. These projects, which focus on the fight against any type of addiction or the construction of prevention programs for them, are written by the members of the community, divided into three different groups of 18 people, which we call the active writing group. Project writing activity is considered important in terms of giving the writing experience to the group writing the project, acting steps at the points we focus on, and ensuring cultural integration.
