Since 2006. the Office for International Programs of Majadahonda (OPIM) was created to coordinate all international activities of Youth Center with following objectives: promotion of cultural exchanges, promotion of mobility of young people in our town and allowing the acquisition of basic skills for their future (foreign language learning, knowledge and understanding of other cultures, capacity building and professional experiences) and promotion of youth participation and exchanges with other European young people that enables creation of personal and professional networks and increased awareness of European citizenship.
Previous experiences
The OPIM has been responsible for managing the previous YiA program and will continue this work within framework of Erasmus + programme.
The Department of Youth of Majadahonda began its participation in Youth in Action programme in 2007. and since then we have carried out different projects, especially in European Voluntary Service and Youth Exchanges actions. By far, we had send groups of youth to exchanges to France, United Kingdom and Germany.
Regarding EVS, we are accredited as sending, hosting and coordinating organization, and in past years we have hosted 9 volunteers from different countries and have sent away 18 young people.
Our experience in EVS has been very successful both in receiving and sending volunteers. As host organization our programmes acquire an added value with the vision and contributions of young people from other European countries, as it contributes to the objectives of our organization in relation to the promotion of non-formal education, information, culture and increasing the understanding of cultural diversity in Europe and the fundamental common values.
Through EVS, both in hosting and sending, there is the opportunity for young people to take part in a volunteer experience, cultural exchange and personal development that otherwise would not be possible.
In addition, we have supported various local organizations in applying for exchanges and initiatives.
