Ayuntamiento de Campoo de Yuso

The municipality of Campoo de Yuso is located on the southern slope of the Cantabrian mountain range, in an environment dominated by forests, meadows and the Ebro Reservoir. The population is 700 inhabitants in an area of 90 square kilometres.

The municipality's Town Hall (public administration - local entity) has developed lines of work in the field of the recovery of native forests, wetlands management and currently in the conservation of native agricultural breeds in collaboration with regional entities such as the Centre for Agricultural Research and Training (CIFA), the Forestry Service or the Centre for Environmental Research (CIMA), and national entities such as the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.

Campoo de Yuso Town Council is a member of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Mountain Partnership and the Red+ Biodiversidad of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP).

This European rural territory is fighting against the problem of depopulation through the active and innovative use of traditional resources that are disappearing due to the modernization and homogenization of agriculture and forestry.

This municipality has been participating as third stakeholder in different EU funding initiatives in the framework of LIFE Projects:

- They are members of the Coordination Committee of the LIFE Naturaleza Oreka Mendian Project (LIFE15 NAT/ES/000805) "Conservation and management of pastureland habitats in the Basque mountains".
- They are also part of the working group of the LIFE Project Conserving and restoring the Yew forests (9580*) of the Cordillera Cantábrica (LIFE15 NAT/ES/000790).
- Finally, they have been advisers on the LIFE Project Conservation and regeneration of biodiversity in the Asón.

These experts have been participating in conferences and workshops. For instance, they have been speakers on green rural infrastructure in a workshop in the framework of the LIFE Project "LIFE+ Nature and Biodiversity Green Belt of Santander Bay: connecting nature and the city" (LIFE 14 NAT/ES/000699) and on advanced mountain management in the project "LIFE+ Nature and Biodiversity Conservation in the Miera River".

The municipality is also member of the Technical Group on Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and Forest Pastures of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
