Atakum Anadolu Imam Hatip Lisesi

Atakum Anatolia İmam Hatip High School (AAIHL) has 770 students and 82 staff in Atakum, Samsun. It was founded in Atakum  which is one of the central districts of Samsun, the general high school curriculum is applied, the students who want to have an academic career in different fields of study can go to the universities they want. Extracurricular studies are performed in both ways, but the success in the university enterance exams and in the proficiency exam of religious education is not at desired level. In 2014 our school became a “Project School” with ministral approval and Arabic Preparation classes were opened. The following year, the English preparation classes were  added to the Arabic ones. AAIHL, is the only project school in Samsun and the only school which has both Arabic and English preparation classes in Black Sea Region. There are three different curriculum for now in our school; İmam Hatip High School, Anatolian İmam Hatip High School and İmam Hatip Project School. It is a high school which gathers successful and ambitious students. The aim of the school for the next four years includes improving both their academic success and their foreign language competence. Not only the students but also the teachers are being elected elaborately according to their academic levels, teamwork competences and communicative skills in order to join our school. There  are also Arabic and English native speaker teachers working in our school full time. Furthermore, our school has high organization skills and the capacity to carry out national and international projects. Our school has experiences about Ersamus projects.

In Samsun  a lot of nationalities live together such as Albanian, Kurdish, Circassian ,Georgian ,Greek immigrants ( originally Turkish, after the independence war, compulsory population exchange)  and Syrian refugees because of current situation in their country.In order to live in peace together, we need to know each other,learn about the citizenship,express ourselves in a clear way and increase communicative and social activities. In other words,  our students should learn how  to express their feelings, thoughts and expression, communicate effectively ,get the full attention of the listeners and  show the other person respect when the other person is speaking. Such etiquette is a part of conversation in every sphere of life, be it professional or personal.

Also ,Communication skills are essential for the successful future career of a student. In today’s competitive world, communication skills in business are the most sought after quality of an educated person. Today's students are tomorrow's European citizens. Therefore, we should be ready to shape the world.

In order to improve their speaking skills ,we have taken part in numerous Model United Nation (MUN) Conferences in different cities (Ankara, İzmir, İstanbul, Samsun) for years. 43 of our students won some awards (ten of them were “best delegate”). 70 students attended these conferences Most of our students are eager to attend different activities out of school and they represent the school successfully. After boosting the knowledge about MUN by participating, we host one of the MUN conference. In addition to first one, we are getting ready for forthcoming one.

Also,Our school organizes various conferences, panels, seminars lectured by prominent academicians by which we provide our students to improve themselves in different branches; social science, art, science, psychology etc.

They need to be given chance to practice speech in front of people, express themselves out of conventional curriculum. Therefore, the Social Activities Commision prepared a strategic plan including this target: “Every year we will attend  national Tubitak Competitions with at least 10 projects.” One of the most important projects students are carrying out with the guidance of their teachers is debates and panels. The Turkish/Literature teachers and Foreign Language (English and Arabic) teachers organizes debate competitions (discussion sessions) between the classes. Students discuss about any topics academically and in terms of rules defined before. Moreover, our students are attending national debate competitions every year and they became the second among more than 20 “Project schools”.

Project contact person , Tuğba Kablan is the leader of the project group. She had a year English preparation class. She has a good MUN career. She attended MUN as both delegate and board member. Also, she had so many awards from different branches.She will coordinate the project and help to organize and accomplish the main goals of the project.
