ASSOCIAÇÃO MY MADEIRA ISLAND

Associação MY MADEIRA ISLAND is a non-profit association with the aim of supporting the social, economic and cultural development of Madeira Island according to the Sustainable Development Goals, more precisely:
-Good health and well-being
-Quality education
-Gender equality
-Decent work and economic growth
-Reduced inequalities
-Sustainable cities and communities
-Responsible consumption and production
-Climate action
-Partnerships for the goals

We contribute to the goals by organizing non-formal educational events and
actions for young people and adults, at the local and international level, and
online initiatives. These are local and international projects, camps, training
courses, conferences, seminars, consultations, lectures and other educational
activities, based on non-formal education principles.
We cooperate with the Direction of Youth in Madeira, Ecologic Park, local
businesses, StartUp Madeira, Digital Nomad community, traditional media and
other stakeholders.

We provide internship opportunities in the association for local youth.
We also run an online magazine – My Madeira
Island https://mymadeiraisland.com/ on a volunteering basis. The magazine
talks about the island of Madeira and its people - aiming to present the island
through the stories of its people, for the locals and visitors to be inspired about
the natural and cultural heritage of the archipelago and Macaronesia region,
and therefore alight with our sustainable development goals. We create the
photo and video content for the magazine ourselves.

According to the EU’s classification, the Madeira archipelago is the outermost
European region. Its population faces geographical obstacles and requires
more programs and projects to keep up with the social, economic and cultural
development of continental territories. Since its founding, My Madeira Island
has organized non-formal educational activities: international mobilities, local
projects and actions, professional and creative workshops, and photo and
video courses. The activities provide the local community of the island to boost
their hard and soft skills, contributing to their professional and personal growth,
and wellbeing, and adding value to the community and sustainable development.
Our activities also promote European democratic values, tolerance,
leadership, inclusion, respect for human rights and social awareness.
We focus on the following areas:
Digital literacy and cybersecurity – youth education; digital skills for youth
work; digital skills for starting an online career or online business (this is
connected with the limited job market on the island). Our project

in February 2022, we have been working with the displaced Ukrainians on the
island and organized activities to help them integrate in the local community.
