Asociación Juvenil Colectivo Saharaui LEFRIG

To support thie Sahrawi cause, we organize educational talks, carry out volunteer programs on the ground, and promote development cooperation projects in the Sahrawi refugee camps. In addition, we provide legal and social support to migrants arriving in Spain, particularly those applying for stateless status, as well as to young migrants and former minors who were under the care of Spanish public institutions. We are also part of the European Network on Statelessness, which works globally to reduce and prevent statelessness.

At LEFRIG, we strive for and work towards a feminist, decolonial, anti-racist, and anti-ableist social and political context, where we can all develop our personal projects within a community that respects our natural environment. Just like our ancestors did, traveling from one wad to another, unfolding their jaimas and setting up a frig as a space to sustain life.
Our values are:
● Anti-racist feminism is our way of being in society: not violating anyone on the basis of their sexual orientation, gender identity, race, tribe, or physical ability.
● Environmentalism as our lens for interaction with the natural environment, with full awareness of its finiteness.
● Social and political commitment to decolonization and to ending the occupation of peoples and their territories, especially the Palestinian and Sahrawi peoples, in accordance with the right to self-determination.
● Youth participation as an instrument for conscious access to adult life.
● Co-development as a line of work to join forces with other institutions and public administrations working to meet the needs of the Sahrawi refugee population in Algerian territory.
● North-South cooperation understood from a horizontal perspective, respecting the agency and capacity of each individual and community.

In recent years, we have been working with great impact and influence on Education for Development and Global Citizenship, both with the local and the global community, laying the foundations for real global transformation. We also address social inclusion and the reclaiming of our narratives as tools to transform our immediate environment and, subsequently, our world.
Accordingly, our key areas of work include:
● Sahrawi Refugees in the Tindouf Camps (Algeria): We support development and co-development projects aimed at strengthening infrastructure, such as educational centers and facilities for people with disabilities.
● Volunteers (National and International): Since 2017, we have run the Talha Project, which offers therapeutic care for people with functional diversity in the Sahrawi camps. It is led by volunteers trained in occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech therapy, and related fields. These efforts combine fieldwork with year-round activities coordinated from Zaragoza, aiming to build a family-centered support model.
Since 2021, we have also hosted young volunteers rom the Sahrawi refugee camps each year through the European Solidarity Corps.
● Host Families in the “Vacations in Peace” Program: We work to raise awareness in Spain and find host families for Sahrawi children who travel to Spain during the summer months (June–August).
● Young Migrants and Former Minors: We provide legal assistance to undocumented youth, particularly those previously in care, who often face homelessness and lack of access to emancipation programs.
● Applicants for Stateless Status: We assist individuals who are de facto stateless and arrive in Spain without any recognized nationality. For many, applying for stateless status is the first time their basic rights are acknowledged by a state.
● Youth Facing Socioeconomic Vulnerability: We support young people from diverse backgrounds, often with intersecting identities and challenges.
