lTACA's has been an island on the sea of consumerism since 1982 on the old town of Compostela, organizing open-door activities, summer camps, trekking routes, workshops, visits, games, european activities...based on Non-Formal education.
Born in the scout tradition the youth association moved at the beginning of the 90's to Rúa do Pombal , where, hand by hand created the “Ludoteca /Play centre" than is now the space in town known as ITACA.

Asociación Cultural e Xuvenil ITACA promotes didactic and playfull activities for kids, youngsters and adults: holiday's camps. workshops handicraft Iiterature and expression, all kind of games, active nights, celebrations, alternative arts school, youth exchanges...all of them based on non formal education. Our values are Action, Equality, Education, Environment, Cooperation. Play, Pacifism, lntegration Volunteering, Galician culture...

The aim is not to offer services to the community but promoting the existence of a space where people (índividuals, families, kids, youngsters.­ educators...) can meet and develop projects and ideas collectively.

Based on Santiago de Compostela, capital of Galicia, Itaca has contributed to the socio-cultural development of the town promoting an attitude of active citizenship. ITACA helps youngsters to participate in civil society. Itaca is an anarchy republic where although there is a legal board, tho real board is the assembly of members and educators where decisions are taken by consensus. Both on every activity, both in the organization management ITACA promotes Democracy and Assemblyism ,the Circle is Itaca's primary shape: to decide to share info, to eat...A.X. ITACA exists as a Circle where whoever person has the right to talk, to listen and to feel included.
