Article 12 in Scotland

Article 12 in Scotland is a network of individuals (young people and adults) and organisations that works through the medium of peer education to promote young people's rights as set out in international human rights charters, conventions and other documents. This includes the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

Believing that young people are experts in their own realities and are therefore the best starting point for any action for change, Article 12 in Scotland regularly supports groups of young people, who share a common interest and concern, to develop and deliver their own projects. For example, we are currently working with a group of young Gypsy/Travellers to build their own civil society organisation. We are also supporting a group of young people who face a range of barriers to participation (economic, geographical, mental health), to create an informative resource on environmental issues, and how these relate to and affect young people facing those, and other, barriers.

Another key area of our work is as the training organisation for EVS volunteers based in Scotland, as part of the UK wide Intercultural Training Partnership. This involves organising, developing and delivering training workshops in line with the EVS training cycle and EVS charter. We are also an accredited EVS sending and coordinating organisation and as such we support young people through the whole process of taking part in EVS projects. This involves supporting and mentoring young people before, during and after their EVS experience, including offering pre-departure trainings in line with the EVS training cycle.

Article 12 in Scotland also supports young people to develop their own Youth Initiatives projects. For example, with the creation of mental health and environmental awareness raising resources. For further information about our work please visit www.article12.org
