Arteca Onlus

Arteca Onlus, (Association for cooperation and development in education) is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organisation without religious affiliation which aims to promote and encourage progress in the areas of education and training. It is aimed specifically at young people in disadvantaged situations. Arteca's projects are informed by an alternative concept of education that focuses primarily on the development of artistic, creative activity as a basis for personal development.
Art is used as a “therapeutic” tool, that can liberate minds, enhance self-knowledge, improve and enliven social and group dynamics and promote open discussion and respect for diversity.
By creating alternative spaces with the cooperation of local groups, the projects undertaken by Arteca aim to improve the standard of living in communities by promoting fairness, trying to keep young people in school and tackling issues of exploitation and child labour.
Arteca projects consist primarily in the organisation of art, music and theatre workshops, putting on performances and exhibitions, the promotion of cultural activities and the organisation of training courses for teachers and adults in the community.
Arteca is also involved in documenting the social and political conditions of the areas where projects are undertaken. The organisation is furthermore active in increasing awareness of these realities through the organization of meetings, discussions, screenings and exhibitions of photography.
All activities of the association are inspired by the principles of gender equality and the inviolable rights of the individual.
