Ankara Research Application and Research Center (ANKARAMER)

The Ankara Research Application and Research Center (ANKARAMER) is an interdisciplinary research center based at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, focusing on the analysis of urbanization and contemporary urban challenges in cities across different national and regional contexts. While Ankara serves as an important empirical and intellectual reference, the Center’s primary interest lies in understanding common urban problems shared by cities worldwide and developing comparative, transferable knowledge.

ANKARAMER conducts research on key urban issues such as urban growth and shrinkage, housing and spatial inequality, transportation and mobility, migration, governance, and socio-cultural transformation. By integrating perspectives from sociology, urban studies, geography, planning, history, and cultural studies, the Center aims to contribute to evidence-based policy discussions and innovative research frameworks relevant to European and international urban agendas.

A core objective of ANKARAMER is to foster international collaboration and knowledge exchange. The Center actively seeks partnerships with universities, research institutes, local authorities, and civil society organizations in different countries facing similar urban challenges. Through joint research projects, comparative studies, academic mobility, and public engagement activities, ANKARAMER aims to strengthen cross-national learning and contribute to sustainable, inclusive, and resilient urban futures.

By participating in EU-funded programs and international research networks, ANKARAMER positions itself as a reliable partner capable of linking local urban experiences with global urban debates. The Center is committed to interdisciplinary cooperation, methodological rigor, and social relevance, and welcomes collaboration with institutions seeking to address complex urban issues through comparative and international perspectives.

Lastly, the center located in Ankara, Turkey’s capital and a major hub for public institutions, policy-making, and international engagement, the Ankara Research Application and Research Center (ANKARAMER) benefits from the strong academic infrastructure and multidisciplinary expertise of Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University. The Center operates with a broad and diverse academic staff and has access to the University’s extensive research facilities, administrative support, and international networks. ANKARAMER is particularly open to innovative project proposals that contribute to youth development and broader societal well-being, and welcomes collaborations that aim to generate academic, social, and policy-oriented impact at local, national, and international levels.
