Ankara Directorate for National Education, Research and Development Department

Ankara is the capital city of Turkey and has a population of nearly 5 million.
Ankara Directorate of National Education is the second biggest local authority after the Ministry of Education in Turkey. It is responsible for the planning ,coordination and management of all kinds of educational and training activities for pre-primary,primary,secondary,vocational, tecnical , SEN schools and adult education in 25 districts of Ankara.
The organisation has a range of duties mainly in 7 fields ;entitled management ,staff education and training ,budget and investment, research ,planning and statistics,inspection,guidance and re search and civil defence. These duties are carried out by 24 affiliated units.
There are 956.171 pupils and 62.030 teachers in 2.351 schools in total in Ankara. There are 62.530 pupils in pre-primary schools, 320.847 pupils in primary schools , 291.935 pupils in lower secondary schools, 280.859 pupils in high schools in Ankara and in its 25 districts. Inaddition, 295.458 citizensaged 18-65 aretrainees/ students/ participants / beneficiers of formal education.
% 16 of the population of Ankara is young people and our directorate is responsible of the young learners’ education and social activities such as SPORTS as well.
Besides, we are responsible of Special Education Schools and Institutions and Private Education Institutions .Our main aim is the provision of coordination between Ministry of National Education and District Directorates of Educationand Vocational Education. We are the administrative body with the management of schools and educational institutions at different levels excluding universities.
