Co-operations in local activities and services:
APF has actively pursued its mission and goals through various activities:
1. Symi Symposium: The Symi Symposium is an annual intellectual gathering that follows the tradition of Ancient Greek philosophers. Since its inception in 1998, this event has brought together prominent individuals from diverse backgrounds, including leading intellectuals, politicians, Nobel laureates, entrepreneurs, diplomats, scientists, and activists. Held on the picturesque island of Symi, this symposium provides a unique platform for spirited deliberation and knowledge exchange. Participants engage in in-depth discussions on some of the most pressing global issues, fostering an environment where ideas are nurtured, and innovative solutions are explored. The overarching goal of the Symi Symposium is to initiate and nurture substantive dialogue while giving attendees the opportunity to learn from each other in a personal and meaningful way. By facilitating conversations that transcend borders and disciplines, Symi aims to generate ideas that promote equitable societies, responsive governance, and the ability to overcome global challenges effectively.
2. Young Leaders Project: Launched in 2017, the Young Leaders Project is a flagship initiative of the Andreas Papandreou Foundation. This program is designed to engage emerging leaders across various sectors, including active politics, government, civil society, private enterprises, and social organizations. Participants are exposed to a unique, experiential learning journey that equips them with the tools to address the complex challenges of our contemporary world. The Young Leaders Project is developed in synergy with the annual Symi Symposium, leveraging its tradition of intellectual discourse. The program encourages participants to diagnose their leadership challenges from macro to micro levels, rethink their understanding of leadership, explore personal development goals through the "Immunity to Change" framework, and build lasting partnerships and confidants. It provides a platform for deepening participants' understanding of global issues and trends by facilitating interactions with leading international thinkers and doers. This initiative plays a pivotal role in nurturing a new generation of leaders committed to addressing social challenges, democracy, and peace, both locally and globally.
3. Democracy Labs: The Andreas Papandreou Foundation initiated the "Democracy Labs," an educational project designed to cultivate a more informed and engaged citizenry. This pilot program focuses on non-formal education for democracy, employing participatory, innovative, holistic, and interactive learning approaches with modern teaching tools. The Democracy Labs aim to empower citizens with the knowledge and skills needed to actively participate in democratic life responsibly. By instilling a sense of responsibility, fostering an appreciation for diversity, and promoting active engagement in democratic processes, this program contributes to the solidification of democracy and the rule of law. Inspired by successful practices, Democracy Labs exemplify the foundation's commitment to promoting democratic engagement and could serve as a valuable model for similar initiatives. Through these activities, the Andreas Papandreou Foundation remains dedicated to strengthening democracy, enhancing public dialogue, and generating informed policy development.
