American International School of Transylvania

According to our mission statement, AIST is highly committed to offering high quality international education to assist the progress of regional potential into global value. AIST is the open gate towards the world, the nest where we cultivate knowledgeable students, international spirit and personalities of global leaders. Currently, we are supporting the cultural initiatives among youngsters and teachers – publications, festivals, symposiums, cultural-scientific activities to name just a few, at national, regional and international level.
Our major project for the autumn of 2013 is to open The International School of Transylvania. Activities shall include educational services within primary, secondary and superior schools through which we shall integrate our culture in the international context. We shall bring our contribution to promoting foreign cultures and civilizations in the Romanian society, to developing the social-cultural and economic relations between persons, associations, organizations and institutions in Romania and abroad.
As far as our operational capacity is concerned, AIST has a team made up of seven qualified staff and of thirty five highly motivated volunteers within our community. During the past year, we have been organising activities for children and youth, with the support of local and international Peace Corps and EVS volunteers, in partnership with Baia Mare YMCA, Federation of YMCAs in Romania, Team for Youth Association, Maramures School Inspectorate, Maramures County Library, Baia Mare Municipality, and so on. Our staff members have clear areas and responsibilities according to their job descriptions, being specialists in formal education, project management, library or office management. EVS volunteers will have a well defined role in our organisation and programmes, with specific and clear tasks in non-formal education, working with children and youth, through various practical informal activities, and thus not intermingle with the roles or activities carried out by our paid staff on a daily basis.
