We are a multidimensional social business, which since 2012 promotes the craft knowledge and the professional inclusion of people with personal, relational or existential problems. With the workspace Sartoria Sociale of Al Revès, we are socially committed to producing less and improving the existing clothes. We believe that a new object is more than an object that has not yet been used: it has an ethical content of which to become ambassadors.
In our workspace, textile waste becomes a resource and meetings between people are transformed into relationships.
We give a new life to used clothing and to people, that can discover talents that they were not aware of.
Sharing the values of Sartoria Sociale means understanding that we all have a story to tell: we all have a past, we all inherit what belongs to us or what we belong to. We believe that people, as well as objects, always deserve a second chance to get a new shape and a new value. Sartoria Sociale is first and foremost a place for socialization, based on the development of talents and the exchange of skills.
The working group provides a stable core, with sewing professionals, social workers, and communication experts. There is also a network of volunteers with different backgrounds: former prisoners, women who are victims of human trafficking, disabled people, immigrants and people with mental health problems.
In addition to our core staff working, the social group Sartoria Sociale also includes the women of Pagliarelli Lab, a female sewing workshop in the Pagliarelli prison in Palermo.
In 2017, Sartoria Sociale was established in a space confiscated to the Mafia. It belonged to the boss of Cosa Nostra Antonino Buscemi, as a result of which we are even more closely connected with legality and ethical re-use.
Sartoria Sociale choose to stick to a philosophy that promotes the free expression of talents, the sustainability of production processes and the improvement of human relationships.
The clothes are made by sewing professionals with the collaboration of people who have found a new life expectancy. You will not only receive a dress, but you will also be the protagonist and spokesperson for a happy ending story.
