Access Azores

Access Azores is a non-profit organization based in the city of Horta, Faial Island, Azores, Portugal (Faial is one of the nine islands of the Azores, and the Azores one of the nine outermost regions of Europe). Based in Horta, we work in the territory of the triangle (Faial, Pico, and São Jorge Islands), due to the proximity between the islands, having a good relationship with governmental entities and other civil organizations and associations: youth, cultural, tourism, sport, social, scientific, scholar, technological, entrepreneur, and business sectors.
Founded in 2013, Access Azores started from the very beginning to raise awareness of the importance of accessibility, universal design, mobility, capacity building, digital technologies, and sustainable social development in those sectors, among local and regional organizations. In addition to several activities and events, Access Azores has dedicated itself to the organization of local, regional, and national conferences and debates on the mentioned themes. Access Azores also promotes knowledge through the publication of scientific articles as well as the presence in national and international conferences: Malaga, London, Brussels, Morocco, Madrid, Vienna, and Dubai, among other cities, presenting its projects and creating contact and networking points. The bet on capacity building and training is also an area that we constantly seek to offer regarding digital technologies, open-source software, and multimedia.
Access Azores collaborates with public administration bodies, associations, cooperatives, private organizations, scientific institutions, universities, and individuals.
We seek to address the new societal challenges (Green Deal and New European Bauhaus for instance) demonstrating with projects and practical cases that it is possible to provide the tourism, sports, cultural and social sectors with the conditions of access to all users as much as possible, contributing to a development that is intended to be fair, accessible, sustainable, and socially inclusive.
