AICS - Italian Association of Culture and Sport, is a nonprofit organization, born in 1962 in Rome with the aim to promote sport. From then, it started to expand itself working on solidarity, culture, social policies, the third sector, social tourism, the environment, the most vulnerable people and people with disabilities, on civil protection and education.
AICS wants to highlight its social scope, stressing the link between sport for all and culture and active citizenship and the welfare system. AICS follows the principles of the "White paper on Sport" of the EU, stressing how sport should be a Right enjoyed by all, to get to psychological and physical wellbeing, to the personal development, for social inclusion and equal opportunities for all, to promote health, to fight racism and violence and to promote sustainable development.
AICS has been officially recognized by CONI – Olympic Italian National Committee as a national institution for sport promotion, by the Italian Ministry of Internal Affairs as solidarity institution, by the Ministry of Labor as an ”Associazione di Promozione Sociale”, by the Ministry of Social Solidarity because of its activities carried on to support migrants and by the Department of Civil protection of the Italian cabinet as volunteer organization.
Today AICS can count on 20 regional committees, and 120 provincial committees.
