How can we foster meaningful youth participation in today’s society?

Are you a youth worker, educator, or civic leader passionate about empowering young people to take an active role in shaping their communities?
Do you want to explore democratic participation, public engagement, and how to bridge the gap between young people and institutions?

Youth Participa(c)tion is a training course based on non-formal education methods, designed to equip youth workers, trainers, and project leaders with the tools, knowledge, and strategies to strengthen youth participation in democratic life and civic society.

Objectives

By the end of the training, participants will:

✅ Identify barriers and opportunities for youth engagement in their local contexts
✅ Develop facilitation skills to support active participation
✅ Learn how to create dialogue spaces between youth and decision-makers
✅ Build concrete action plans to strengthen youth participation in their projects and communities

Methodology

The training is grounded in non-formal education principles and includes:

  • Experiential learning
  • Peer learning & reflection
  • Simulations and role-plays
  • Workshops on civic engagement tools
  • Study visit to a local institution for real-life insights
  • Co-creation sessions for action planning and follow-up

Programme Overview

Arrival Day - 1 July
Welcome & introduction
Teambuilding activities and community walk

Day 1: Understanding Youth Participation

  • What is youth participation and why does it matter?
  • European frameworks & youth policy
  • Personal & professional mapping of participation practices

Day 2: Barriers and Opportunities

  • Mapping local realities: challenges to youth involvement
  • Inclusion and accessibility in participatory processes
  • Case study carousel: learning from successful models

Day 3: Facilitation for Participation

  • Participatory facilitation skills
  • Power dynamics and youth empowerment
  • Role-play: designing inclusive youth spaces

Day 4: Dialogue with Institutions

  • Visit to local authorities or institutions
  • Simulation: Youth meets Decision-Makers

Day 5: From Vision to Action

  • Developing local or project-based action plans
  • Tools and support through Erasmus+ and ESC
  • Sharing ideas and peer feedback

Day 6: Reflection and Next Steps

  • YouthPass process and learning outcomes
  • Group presentations of action plans
  • Final evaluation and future collaboration

Who Can Participate? This training is designed for:

Youth workers, educators, and trainers
Civic actors, facilitators, and Erasmus+ project leaders
Mentors and youth leaders committed to participatory processes

Participants should be:
✅ At least 18 years old
✅ Motivated to foster youth participation and contribute to building more inclusive, democratic communities
✅ Open to intercultural learning and collaboration
✅ Able to communicate in English

Location & Accommodation: Breaza, Romania - A peaceful and green location, perfect for reflection, learning, and creative collaboration. Participants will stay in shared accommodation and should be prepared for outdoor activities and group interaction.

ℹ️ Other Important Information about the Selection Procedure

Participants must be residents of an EU country or an Erasmus+ partner country.
Selection will focus on motivation, relevant experience, and commitment to applying what they learn. We aim to build a diverse and inclusive group. Full attendance is required.

Important to Know

⚠️ This training involves outdoor activities, so participants should bring comfortable clothing.
It focuses on practical sustainability strategies, but continuous application in real projects is encouraged.

Participation fee

No participation fee required.

Accommodation and food

Accomodation and food costs during the training are covered by A.C.T.O.R. 

Travel reimbursement

Travel costs will be reimbursed in accordance with the Erasmus+ program rules, based on the actual costs incurred and within the maximum amounts allocated per participant per country.

Reimbursement will be provided only upon submission of original travel documents (boarding passes, invoices, tickets) and adherence to eco-friendly travel principles where applicable. Participants are encouraged to choose sustainable travel options, such as trains or buses, where possible.
