“Youth in virtual environment: Exploring digital competences in youth work activities”

Training Course

24 July - 1 August 2024 | Barcelona, Spain

This TC is for youth workers who are new to the field and want to improve their knowledge regarding the development of youth work activities and increase digital competences of young people, development of non-formal education-based activities.

In an era where digital technologies influence every aspect of our lives, empowering young people with the necessary digital competences is a must. The Digital Competence Framework for Citizens, commonly known as DigComp, provides a comprehensive structure for assessing and developing those digital competences. The importance of digital competences for young individuals extends far beyond mere technical skills; it encompasses a range of abilities necessary to thrive in the digital age. The DigComp framework serves as a guiding tool for youth workers to assess, develop, and enhance the digital competences of young individuals. By equipping young people with the necessary digital skills and competences, we empower them to navigate the complexities of the digital age with confidence, resilience, and a sense of agency.

The training course is developed in line with the Youth Goal 8: Quality Learning and contributes to:

  • Creating and implementing more personalised, participative, and cooperative learner-cantered methods in every step of the education process.
  • Guaranteeing that education equips all young people with life skills
  • Incorporating methods within formal and non-formal education settings that enable the learner to develop personal skills including critical and analytical thinking, creativity and learning.

Objectives:

  • To improve the understanding and knowledge of participants about DigComp framework, and explore the ways it can be integrated into regular youth work activities
  • To improve the knowledge and skills of participants for further development of digital competences among young people with fewer opportunities, especially in the fields of: media and information literacy, cyberbullying, communication and collaboration, and problem solving
  • To develop skills of participants for developing educational workshops and activities for and with youth with fewer opportunities
  • To develop and further improve the knowledge of participants about the Erasmus+ program, Youthpass, and recognition of learning through model of key competences.
  • To empower youth organisations and their youth workers to develop, implement and evaluate local level educational activities focusing on development of digital competences among young people with fewer opportunities.
