Yellow Submarine

Training Course

28 May - 8 June 2023 | Hopeland eco-community, Greece

Yellow Submarine is a 10-day long submerged experience into embracing conflicts as a natural element of healthy communities and learning how to use them constructively to grow relationships and opportunities.

THE IDEA BEHIND

When we think about healthy and nurturing communities, images of harmony and like-mindedness are often appearing in our mental pictures…yet there is a spicy ingredient to them that we tend to forget: conflicts.

Yes, we consider conflicts a natural element of communities, not an obstacle to it! The problem is that we didn’t learn how to use them constructively, so that our relationships and opportunities can grow.

It’s a paradox: if conflicts keep being a taboo, it stays hard to open authentic dialogues that will bring us the inclusion we desire, and we will lose opportunities to organise better, make clear agreements, weave stronger relationships, and grow out of the idea of just finding the right solution. Good news is that all these skills can be learned.

THE TRAINING COURSE

We will be 36 people invited to tap into the day-to-day life of Hopeland's community & conflict transformation processes through experiential learning, hands-on activities and embodiment approach. The 10-day program will be guided by the experienced trainers and the Hopeland team in a safe and supportive environment.

Experiential learning

We will be learning by doing: moving, playing, sharing, actively participating in every activity. We will tap in into community building and non-violent communication. The experience will be supported by theories, lectures and moments for reflection.

Hands-on activities

We will integrate a special focus on the practical work that is needed in the eco-community, as a means for learning and applying conflict transformation. Working with the land, gardening, building construction and more will become a playground to practise elements that are essential in handling conflicts.

Embodiment

The  way  we  live the  conflicts  and relate   to  them  is  interlinked  with our  physical  body.  In this  project, we  will  use  body based processes (creative movement, body work, dance, meditation, and more) as a tool to bridge the gap between the rational and emotional mind and find support towards the  transformation of the conflict.

TIMELINE

  • April - 27 May | preparation period
  • 28 May | arrival
  • 29 May | program starts
  • 7 June | program ends

WHAT YOU CAN GET OUT

After the project, when interacting with your communities you will be able to:

  • leave behind old patterns and automatic responses and develop more options
  • identify feelings and needs of yourself and others and give space to both
  • to use your new gain tools for conflict transformation and social inclusion of youngsters with fewer opportunities
  • create context for authentic and inclusive dialogues, keeping together difficult messages and care
  • keep open towards complexity, while looking for tasks instead of solutions
  • make observations of how people interact and the role they take in a community so they can better plan their interventions

THE PROJECT IS FOR YOU IF YOU ARE

Our mission is to to provide a space where people explore, create and learn from each other and nature. A space in which our actions and interactions are based on our core values of sustainability, mindfulness, synergy, and of course.. hope!

Hopeland is offering various experiential learning experiences through the Erasmus+ and ESC programs, mainly on the topics of personal growth, community and environment.

We are welcoming young people, educators and local farmers to join forces with us and together contribute towards our wider vision of a society with deep community spirit and involvement in personal, social and environmental growth.
