Wood Work in Youth Work

Training Course

6-12 April 2026 | Šiauliai, Lithuania

The main purpose is to develop participants’ hands-on woodworking competences, strengthen their capacity for environmental education, and provide a first, practical stage of testing educational tools developed in the project.

 “Wood Work in Youth Work TC” includes the organisation of a 5-day training course in Lithuania for youth educators and trainers. The activities are organised in three phases (preparation, implementation and follow-up/dissemination) to ensure quality, sustainability and wide transfer into practice.

Objective 1: Improve educators’ competences in woodwork and environmental education

The training provides direct hands-on practice with reclaimed wood and basic woodworking processes, enabling educators to gain practical skills they can replicate. The blueprint testing introduces ready-to-use solutions that participants can implement in their organisations, while scenario development helps them translate technical work into structured youth learning experiences with clear outcomes.

Objective 2: Create and test at least 10 educational tool blueprints

Workshop practice allows participants to work with the blueprints, test their effectiveness, and propose improvements based on real experience. Structured feedback collection ensures that modifications are evidence-based before finalisation. Digital packaging of blueprints makes them easier to share, adapt and reuse in future educational settings.

Objective 3: Promote the methodology and involve local communities

Dissemination activities after the training make the results visible to local stakeholders and increase uptake. Tutorial materials and digital resources extend the reach beyond the training group. Cooperation with youth organisations and local craftsmen strengthens sustainability and supports long-term integration of woodwork methods in youth work practice.

The training is the first practical testing stage for the educational tools. Participants actively contribute to the design and optimisation of tool blueprints, which later become final project results. The programme focuses on practical techniques using reclaimed wood, directly supporting the project’s green priorities. It also shows how woodwork can be used as a tool for social integration and empowerment of young people with fewer opportunities, through adapted workshop design and inclusive facilitation.

The main results expected from this work package include:
-at least 20 trained youth workers/trainers/educators (improved practical and facilitation competences);
-development of at least 10 educational tool blueprints (co-created and tested);
-development of at least 10 workshop scenarios using the produced tools;
-creation of an e-publication (methodology + educational materials) capturing the training approach and practical resources;
-practical testing of the tools and scenarios, including work with young people and collecting real-world feedback;
-increased competences in eco-education, circular economy and hands-on learning methods;
-establishment of an international network of educators and organisations ready to use and promote the project results;
-production of photo and video materials during the training to support dissemination and visibility.

As a result, participants will be better prepared to deliver practical workshops linked to sustainability, and to implement the project methodology in their organisations after the activity.
