WANNA MAEK MISTAKES

Training Course

13-20 April 2019 | Ericeira, Portugal

Our aim is to empower educators to develop a positive attitude towards mistakes and develop activities that help youngsters to learn from their failures in their learning process, understanding that mistakes are crucial elements of any learning cycle.

Partners from Portugal, Hungary, Italy, France, Slovenia, Romania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic and Belgium carry out this project in order to empower youth workers/educators to develop a positive attitude towards mistakes and develop social inclusion activities that support marginalized youngsters - namely refugees, asylum seekers and migrants – to learn from failures and keep resilient in their learning process and understanding that mistakes are crucial elements of the learning cycle and of the processes of Social Inclusion.

To achieve this, we set the following objectives:

  • explore the value of mistakes in our life-long learning process
  • to offer tools to deal with mistakes based on Clowning and Improvisational Theatre techniques
  • to explore how to transfer these tools in the direct work with youngsters
  • to share best practices and non-formal educational (NFE) methods, which encourage learning from making mistakes.

We will train a group of 24 youth workers/educators in using clowning and improv theatre techniques. This will be done with experiential methods, reflection time, workshops about how to concretely apply these tools to young people and by developing a concrete action plan with each participant. Once back in their home countries, these participants will organize local activities with young people with fewer opportunities on the topic of dealing constructively with mistakes.

Additionally, they will also develop a list of recommendations for partner organisations to develop their own internal organisational "Failure Policy" as a capacity-building initiative to help organisations become more competent when dealing with this topic. As a result, we hope to contribute to youth workers competence development and to the concrete implementation of new activities that promote a positive mindset towards mistakes and a bigger resilience in learning and inclusion processes.
