January 2020 (to be determined) - PEER LEARNING SUPPORTED REFLECTION

The overall aim of this training process is to reflect on the mindset of youth workers and exchange, discuss and challenge youth workers about competencies they need for supporting young people’s development in youth mobility and furthermore. This will be based on drawing from successful youth mobility experiences and will lead to discussing measures for systematic change in youth worker education and training, to be better prepared! For this we will be using the impact tool. The detailed objectives are:-

- to discover and discuss practices and impact of successful learning experiences and supported/facilitated learning processes in youth mobilities,

- to discuss what supports learning in mobility’s (learning environment, process etc.) and what is the mindset of the youth workers related to it,

- to discuss how to empower and enable the competence development of young people in appropriate ways (with a specific focus on the use of it in the young person's daily life and reality),

- to supporting meaningful expressions of gained competence through youth mobilities,

- to focus on youth workers as a learner and develop youth workers competences related to learning processes.

The core of the training process will be to discover what impact will you cause by putting 'Learning as a priority' in your work with young people! The training course provides an opportunity for youth workers to reflect on their mindset with a specific focus on being a learner and supporting learning of young people - especially in youth mobilities!

Mindset

a set of beliefs or a way of thinking that determines one’s behaviour, outlook or mental attitude towards the world. A persons’ mindset has a profound impact on their motivation, learning, participation - and actions as a learning supporter.

The core of the 2-months process will be the virtual training days in November and December and that will be supported by online activities one-day before and one-day after, to support the impact of the training on the local level of the participants. The training course is targeted to youth workers (professional or volunteer) who are involved in organising, coordinating and implementing mobilities for young people within the framework of Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps - motivated to make a greater shift towards learning.

Together with other participants from all over Europe you will have the opportunity to work on this mindset – reflect, exchange, challenge… The training course will focus on tackling the questions: What are the elements of the “mindset of a youth worker” (in youth mobilities) in order to :

- be an example of a good learner,
- make learning a priority,
- create a good learning environment,
- balance both, group and individual learning needs,
- support reflection processes of young people,
- ask ‘good’ questions to raise participants' awareness to their ‘hidden’ competences,
- support young people to get empowered and express their own learning meaningfully,
…..and many more questions come up when you work with young people in mobilities.

In short, the training course challenges us to see whether ‘we walk the talk’ and ‘which walk do we talk’ and which areas need reflection, discussion and exchange - in order to improve the quality of your youth mobility projects!

Virtual Training Course

The Mindset training will be run through an online platform with a modified approach - still focusing and tackling the same objectives and topics.

Please note that the training days in November and December are full working days, with online and offline elements. To get as much out of the training process as possible a participant should fully participate during the training days.

Due to the COVID-19 measures the Dutch National Agency of Erasmus+ decided to cancel the residential training course and organize a full virtual training course.
