Training for Mentors in Volunteering Projects within ESC

Training Course

12-16 December 2022 | Thessaloniki, Greece

This 3-day residential TC is focusing on the competences needed for mentors to support young volunteers while in their ESC journey and aims to offer tools and methods but also inspiration to future mentors in ESC volunteering projects.

What is this course about:

The role of mentors in European Solidarity Corps (ESC) volunteering projects and its impact on quality will be explored and highlighted in this course.

Mentoring is a personal support measure for all participants in volunteering activities, as mentioned in the Guide and thus no young volunteer should remain unsupported or be provided with insufficient mentoring services. Competence development for mentors through training and peer-sharing is the main building block of this course.

Aim:

To enable competence development in mentoring through interactive activities, peer 2 peer learning and reflection, in view of improved quality within the European Solidarity Corps Programme/ Volunteering Projects.

Objectives:

  • To create a better understanding about the ‘Volunteering’ part of the European Solidarity Corps Programme and a shared view on the quality aspects of projects within it.
  • To offer space and support for the exchange of good practices and participants’ realities regarding mentoring within the Volunteering projects.
  • To develop participants’ mentoring competences in areas such as learning guidance and facilitation, communication and active listening, goal setting and monitoring thus improving their role and service quality.
  • To explore and share methods, tools and resources related to mentoring.

This educational activity takes the form of a residential training course and builds on the success of its online predecessors implemented twice in the ‘HOP Online Learning Platform’.
