Training course Sensitivity & Diversity

Training Course

18-24 November 2021 | France

The training course "Sensitivity & Diversity" propose to develop critical thinking and highly sensitive working attitudes towards diversity in the youth field and other educational fields.

There is a lot going on in our society: we hear everyday words like migration, gender, culture, race, feminism, poverty, privilege and others. Often, we don’t know how to deal with some of those issues and we can feel unprepared to tackle these topics with our target groups.

At the same time, youth work and education should be able to accompany change in the best way possible. To do so, we, youth workers, need to learn new tools and, most importantly, we need to take time to self-reflect on our own values, principles and worldviews, constantly and critically.

This training course is thought to offer time, space and tools in order to jump in this process together, in a transcultural, open and caring environment.

The main goal of this project is to increase the level of intercultural competence, sensitivity towards diversity and, through this, to raise the quality in the youth work field.

Specific objectives:

- To introduce innovative and provocative methodologies in the youth work field across Europe to challenge negative narratives and paradigms;

- To develop critical thinking and highly sensitive working attitudes towards diversity in the youth field and other actors;

- To stimulate the exchange of best practices in youth work in tackling issues faced by young people (especially underrepresented and marginalised);

- To stimulate the development of a network of practitioners in various regions of Europe to challenge the narratives and practices around diversity;

- To develop strong pro-active attitudes and the sense of initiative among the project partners and among their respective beneficiaries (young people – as well the underrepresented ones).

Please notice that this training course is aimed at reflecting on cultural relativism, perceptions and norms, and all the participants must be willing to shift their own paradigms, develop deeper awareness of our own privilege and power in society.

Profile:

The participants should be willing to be challenged, to explore topics outside their comfort zone and be stimulated to rethink and (maybe) shift their own view on the world and their position in the highly complex intercultural world we live in.

- Being youth workers/social workers, facilitators and trainers from active NGOs working on topics related to multiculturalism, international activities, intercultural learning;

- Have experience in the international field and in intercultural/diversity learning;

- Being ready to be challenged beyond their mental comfort zone;

- Have a high multiplicative potential and motivation;

- Being at least 18 years old;

- Have at least a medium level of English comprehension (to be able to participate in discussions and in training activities);

Please be aware that this training course is NOT suitable for total beginners in the field of group facilitation and intercultural learning.

Hors Pistes is an association based on non-formal education, founded in 2013 and situated in Marseille.

“Hors Pistes” translates to “off track” and it means thinking outside the box, accepting unexpected discoveries, and changing perspectives. It’s about overcoming the ideas preconceived by others than oneself, to escape from one’s comfort zone, to open one’s horizons and to be surprised. It’s about taking paths that we did not suspect existed, but that make us grow and learn.
