Strengthening Rural Communities - A Youth Empowerment and Community Development Training Programme

Training Course

27 November - 5 December 2018 | Pesaro, Italy

This training is directed to Youth Workers and young Community Leaders and aims to strengthen the capacities of rural communities in generating employment opportunities for rural youth through civic engagement and community development.
A wide range of challenges exist for young people in Europe. Amongst the most pressuring challenges is the high unemployment rate for young people living in rural areas and small cities which leads to many young people leaving their home and emigrating to urban centres. As a result, rural communities face a significant brain drain and community development challenges as the young and active generation is bringing in their expertise and energy in their new homes. Against this background, the project would like to explore a variety of approaches to community-based youth work as an instrument for youth empowerment and community development in rural areas in order to strengthen rural community development and counter the on-going brain drain. Therefore, the training programme aims to strengthen the capacities of rural communities in generating employment opportunities for rural youth through civic engagement and community development. Therefore, the programme aims to enhance the competences of youth workers and young community leaders to empower young people to take an active role in community development generating employment opportunities for rural youth in their places of origin. OBJECTIVES of the project: • To enhance the competences of youth workers and young community leaders to empower young people to take an active role in community development and generating employment opportunities for rural youth • To develop an educational resource pack offering practical and easy-to-use methods and practices for direct youth empowerment work for community development • To strengthen transnational partnerships and cooperation for educational opportunities for competence development of rural youth THEMES addressed by the project: • Principles and approaches of youth empowerment work • Approaches to community development • Youth work as an instrument for rural community development The project shall result in the following: - Competence development of 24 youth workers and young community leaders in youth empowerment for youth-led community development - Publication of an educational resource pack in form of an e-booklet on methods and practices for direct youth empowerment work for community development - Triggering new local youth initiatives for rural community development in the participating countries

The NGO has organised and hosted more than 20 Training Courses and Seminars so far on multiple topics (Peace Education, Gender Based Violence, EVS quality, Inclusion...) thanks to the internal human resources and relying on a network of high skilled trainers at international level.

Since 2009 thanks to EVS, the action of Vicolocorto is able to reach young people within and beyond European borders (Latin America, Africa and Asia) both as Hosting and Coordinating organisation (more than 50 volunteers hosted so far) and as Sending Organisation (more than 170 volunteers sent so far ).
These experiences enabled all the staff members of the association to increase their competences, by taking new challenges at cultural and management levels.

Since 2014, a further step forward has been taken by the Association taking part to the creation of RIVE (Rete Italiana Volontariato Europeo), a network of Italian NGOs working in the frame of youth international mobility projects. Vicolocorto, and the partner associations, agreed on developing common standards in youth work, focusing in particular on arising the quality of personal support provided to youngsters looking for EVS projects.

Since April 2015 Vicolocorto has an official agreement promoted by the Employment, Orienteering and Training Center regarding orienteering strategie and career guidance with partners coming from Job Market as well Formal Sector.

Since 2016, Vicolocorto is chosen as one of the 3 NGOs at regional level for what concerns the youth NGO policies of the Marche Region as consultant.

Since January 2017 Vicolocorto's cooperation with the Regional Employment Centre of Pesaro got stronger, to increase the number of activities to be realised together, as a structural joint strategy to tackle youth unemployment at local and regional level.
