Conference – Symposium - Forum

What does it mean to be a community today? Who shapes it, who has a place within it, and who remains at its margins? And what responsibility do we ourselves have in this?
Streetstival is a street-based youth work festival that creates space for meeting, exchanging experiences, and critically reflecting on issues that shape our work and society. Through the festival, we aim to contribute to greater recognition of street based youth work and highlight its role in building relationships, providing support, and creating spaces for young people (and others), including in places where existing systems often fail to reach them.
This year’s Streetstival focuses on COMMUNITY – its meaning, possibilities, and limitations in a time of social divisions, uncertainty, and rapid change. Community is often understood as something positive and self-evident, yet not every community is necessarily inclusive, safe, or just. We therefore ask what kinds of communities we create, who they belong to, who has a place within them, and who does not.
As part of the conference, the following day (Friday) we will also visit different organisations to explore good practices that contribute to community building through their work, methods and tools, and identify diverse ways in which we can contribute to building communities ourselves.
Through different perspectives, we will explore questions of values, justice, inclusion, care, participation, marginalisation, and new forms of connection. We will also look at how communities are built in different spaces – from the street and the local environment to the digital world – and what role young people, youth work, and other actors play in this process.
Streetstival is not about finding simple answers. It is a space for asking questions, confronting different perspectives, and reflecting on what we can do differently. We understand community as something living and constantly changing – something that does not simply happen on its own, but is co-created every day through our relationships, decisions, and actions.
There is no community without us. And the question is: what kind of community do we want to create?

There is no participation fee if you are coming from eligible country with sending organisation.
We will organise the accomodation and food and it is financed by the project.
The costs of travel are covered in the maximum amounts for each specific country (calculated by Distance calculator). We will let you know how much of money it is assigned for your country, after confirmed application.
