Study Visit

UK NA and SALTO Cultural Diversity will host a study visit to explore good practice examples of using sport as a tool for increasing the knowledge and understanding of cultural diversity amongst young people.
Building on the sporting events of 2012 in Europe – including the Euro Championships, Olympics and Paralympics – the UK NA and SALTO Cultural Diversity will host a study visit to explore good practice examples of using sport as a tool for increasing the knowledge and understanding of cultural diversity amongst young people. Objectives • To better understand concepts which relate to the themes/topics of Cultural Diversity, such as stereotyping, prejudice, inclusion, exclusion etc. • Through project visits, to explore examples and share other ways of how sport can be used a vehicle for raising awareness and understanding of cultural diversity amongst young people • To gain a greater understanding of using sport as a tool for working with young people from a variety of different cultural backgrounds • To gain a greater understanding of cultural diversity in different local and national realities • To provide participants with network opportunities to start building possible future partnerships amongst their organisations • To get inspired to carry out future international youth sport projects through YiA programme and other resource possibilities Location Leeds in North West England - It is a culturally diverse city which has a long history as a sporting capital through Football, Cricket, Rugby League, Rugby Union and more recently American Football. Participants 20 youth workers / youth leaders who should… • work directly with young people on daily basis • work with / interested in using sport to work with young people on the topic of diversity • want to reflect and share experiences on working practices with diverse youth groups • be interested in Youth in Action programme as a tool for working with young people Programme 4 programmes days incorporating: • Welcomes, building group dynamic • Exploring concepts which relate to cultural diversity • Project visits, reflections and linking to local realities • Sharing realities and experiences • YiA and other resources / information for International projects

Costs

This project is financed by the Youth in Action Programme. Being selected for this course, all costs (accommodation, travel, visa, etc.) relevant to participation in the course will be covered by the NAs or SALTO involved in this project - except a participation fee which varies from call to call and country to country. Please contact your NA to learn more about the financial details, and how to arrange the booking of your travel tickets and the reimbursement of your travel expenses.
