SPORT AS AN EDUCATIONAL TOOL TO PREVENT YOUTH RADICALIZATION SEMINAR

Seminar

29 October - 3 November 2019 | Mallorca (Balearic Islands) , Spain

Young people that practice sports are less likely to fall into extremism and it facilitates their inclusion, brings them the opportunity to acquire sport values as part of their educational process and allows them to feel part of a group and society

This activity is addressed to share good practices in prevention of youth radicalization through sport and to be an opportunity for those organizations and youth educators interested in developing future projects under the Erasmus+ Youth in Action using sport as a tool against youth radicalization.

It also offers the opportunity to those youth organizations, youth associations, youth workers, youth educators, who are interested in the topic of “Sport and youth radicalization”, to share good practices as well as to establish a trustable European network to create projects in the framework of Erasmus+ Youth in Action programme to fight against any kind of youth radicalization using sport as a tool.

Europe is changing, people make the continent richer and plural, but at the same time we have to face some unbalanced situations for our youngsters: lack of opportunities and real cultural interaction, economical disadvantages, religious confrontation, gender discrimination, political changes... all these aspects cause the arising of extremist positions that can lead in real radicalization.

Young people are very sensitive to all these situations, and their nonconformity makes them an easy target group to be caught by extremist positions that conduct them to radicalization.

To avoid and prevent such situations, mainly in those youngsters with more possibilities to fall in the hands of radicalization, the sport is a very useful tool to combat any kind of radicalization.

AIM:

To share good practices of sport as an educational tool against youth radicalization and to empower a network of partners that develops Erasmus+ Youth in Action projects using the sport as a tool to combat and prevent youth radicalization.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To promote Erasmus+ Youth in Action programme to prevent youth radicalization.
  • To offer new tools to work youth radicalization focus on sport.
  • To know new trustable partners to develop projects in the frame of Erasmus+ Youth in Action programme and the European Solidarity Corps.
  • To share your future ideas/projects with potentials partners interested in the topic.
  • To offer a platform of debate regarding sport as a tool against youth radicalization.
  • To share good practices currently in Europe that use sport as an educational tool for young people.
