Solar Futures

Training Course

18-27 August 2026 | Casa Algaia, Zaragoza, Spain

Join an immersive learning journey where permaculture, solarpunk imagination and community practice come together.

Solar Futures is an 8-day training course from 18 to 27 August 2026 at Casa Algaia, a natural off-grid permaculture project in inland Spain. It is for youth workers, educators, activists and anyone who wants to create positive change in their community.

The course is built around a simple idea: for most of human history, people lived in harmony with nature. Today, as climate change grows bigger, those ways of living are becoming important again. The location is chosen carefully. Inland Spain in August is hot and dry, giving participants a real taste of conditions that much of Europe may face more often in the future. The course teaches people how to live well within these realities.

What you will learn:

The programme has three main areas. First, permaculture and working with the land: you will get your hands dirty with soil, plants and natural materials, learning practical ecological design and bioconstruction. Second, people and emotional resilience: the course makes space to talk honestly about the difficulty of living through an ecological crisis, and explores how groups communicate and make decisions together. Third, storytelling and imagination: through creative practice, movement and narrative, you will practise seeing the future as something hopeful and worth working toward.

Who is this for?

This course is for people concerned about the climate crisis who work with young people or communities and want to bring what they learn back to their own context. No previous experience is needed. You just need to be open, willing to do physical work, and ready to go phone-free for the week.

The group will be small and international. The accommodation is simple. The experience is designed to be meaningful and hands-on.
