Small Frames Big Stories

Training Course

7-14 May 2026 | Slovenia

This training course equips youth leaders and youth workers with practical tools and methods for working with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds through film.

This training course equips youth leaders and youth workers with practical tools and methods for working with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds through film. Participants will explore film both as a creative medium and as a powerful educational, reflective, and empathetic tool.

The programme combines hands-on film-making activities (such as animation, pixelation, optical toys, and basic storytelling) with film viewing and guided discussion methods. Special attention is given to using film to address sensitive or difficult topics indirectly, through stories and experiences of others, helping young people engage without direct confrontation.

By the end of the training, participants gain practical skills to design inclusive film-based activities, lead meaningful discussions, and use visual storytelling to support emotional expression, dialogue, and social inclusion in youth work.

Participants will learn:
● Basic understanding of film as a medium: visual language, storytelling, ethics, and emotional impact.
● Introduction to film-based methodologies for youth work group filmmaking, visual storytelling, and reflective film practices.
● How to use film as a safe tool for self-expression, dialogue, empathy development and group reflection with young people.
● Tools to address topics related to social exclusion, identity and mental health through creative audiovisual processes.
● Practical skills to design inclusive, low-threshold film activities adapted to young people with fewer opportunities.
